The Purpose

  • We don’t ask you for personal information unless we truly need it.

  • We don’t share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law or protect our rights.

  • We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for the ongoing operation of one of our services.

The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform you on what information and how Community Builders for Monterey County ("CBMC") collects this information and for what purpose. CBMC is responsible for and operates this site and it is our policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our website. 

CBMC is a registered tax-exempt 501c(3) nonprofit organization. You may verify the legitimacy of our status through our EIN# 87-2964928. 

Why type of information do you collect?

CBMC receives, collects and stores any information you enter on our website or provide us in any other way. This includes both personally-identifying information (such as your name, address, email address and credit card information) and non-identifiable information (see the section regarding Cookies below). We never knowingly collect personally-identifiable information without your explicit consent. You give us such consent whenever you provide us with your information, such as when you sign up for our newsletters, make a donation or contact us. We may also collect your Internet protocol (IP) address, which is used to connect your computer to the Internet. We never sell your information or use it for purposes outside the scope of what is necessary to provide or improve our services. 

How do you collect information?

We may use software tools to measure and collect non-identifying session information, including page response times, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information, and methods used to browse away from the page. You reserve the right to opt out of such data collection, and site visitors are given the option to opt out. We also collect personally identifiable information (including name, email, password, communications) and donation details (including credit card information). We only collect personally identifiable information whenever you consent to provide us with such information. This includes completing online forms, creating a Volunteer Portal user account, responding to volunteer needs, signing up for our newsletters, interacting without social media accounts and making a donation.  Your information will only ever be used to be able to effectively deliver our services to you. 

Why do you collect such personal information?

CBMC collects your non-personal and personal information for the purpose of effectively providing and operating services for the community. CBMC never sells your information. We only share information with third parties necessary for providing and operating our services. As a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, the sole purpose of CBMC is to provide necessary services to meet community needs at no extra cost to those in need of them. As such, your non-identifiable information is vital for the purpose of demonstrating the ongoing need and effectiveness of our services to our community partners and funders. 

How do you store, use, share and disclose your site visitors' personal information?

combuildersmc.org is hosted on the Wix.com platform. Your data may be stored through Wix.com’s data storage, databases and the general Wix.com applications. They store your data on secure servers behind a firewall.  

 

All direct payment gateways offered by Wix.com and used by our company adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of credit card information by our store and its service providers.

CBMC uses other third-party platforms for the purpose of collecting your information to provide and improve our service to you. We use Google Marketing Platform to collect non-personal information for the purpose of tracking how you use our site, and how we best be a service to you. We use PayPal and Zelle (third-party payment processors) to process donations made through the website or via your online bank account, respectively.  We use MailChimp to collect personal information (namely, your name and email address). By signing up for our newsletters you consent to provide us with personally identifiable information. You are also consenting to MailChimp's privacy policy. Our Volunteer Platform is hosted by Galaxy Digital. By signing up for an account and responding to a volunteer opportunity, you are consenting to provide us with personal information (namely, those you provide in your account). We also collect both non-personal and personal information whenever you interact or engage with us through our social media (namely, your account information and other non-personally identifiable information such as clicks, likes, follows, etc).

By agreeing to use any of the above services, you are consenting to the privacy policy of these third-party platforms. 

 

How does CBMC communicate with you?

You will primarily hear from us via emails through our monthly newsletters, messages through our Volunteer Portal and social media. If you choose to contact us by phone, we may contact you that way as well. We will only contact you for the purpose of providing you with our services. This includes providing you with the latest updates on where and how to volunteer across Monterey County. We may also occasionally send out polls or surveys to better understand how we can best serve you. By providing us with your contact information, you are consenting to receive communications from CBMC. You reserve the right to opt-out out of any future communications. If you make a donation to us, we may contact you to provide you with a confirmation of your donation for your tax-filing purposes. 

Regarding cookies?

 

Cookies are small pieces of data stored on a site visitor's browser. They are typically used to keep track of the settings users have selected and actions they have taken on a site.
